Whilst on a mission, Pilots would have occasion and opportunity to attack enemy aircraft - either in the air or on the ground. On return from a mission, they would make "claim" to the enemy aircraft that they had attacked. These claims were categorised as follows:
Air Destroyed - a plane that was attacked in the air and was successfully destroyed.
Air Probable - a plane that was attacked in the air and was probably destroyed.
Air Damaged - a plane that was attacked in the air and was hit but was able to continue flying and likely to have made it back home.
Ground Destroyed - a plane that was attacked on the ground and was totally destroyed and un-repairable.
Ground Damaged - a plane that was attacked on the ground but was not totally destroyed and therefore would potentially be repairable.
The 78th fighter group made the following claims:
|Air Destroyed||Air Probable||Air Damaged||Ground Destroyed||Ground Damaged|
