Lt. Amoss reported, after his release from Stalag Luft I, that he had seen the 55th Group leader's wingman, Lt. June Stallings, hit the ground and explode on his first strafing pass at Hopsten Airdrome.

Lt. Stallings is buried in North Carolina.
