Lt. Miller was on a fighter sweep in the Venlo, Arnhem, area of Holland and was shot down and killed by enemy fighters.  He is buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, California.

1/Lt. Gerald Brown reported: "I last saw Lt. Miller in the vicinity of Venlo around 1530 hours.  We were in a lufbery to the left and I observed a Me-109 attacking my wingman.  I immediately initiated an attack on the E/A, finally shooting him down.  After rejoining some other P-38s I never saw Lt. Miller again after breaking away from the flight."
