| Notes | Born in Brooklyn, New York, 26th February 1920. Entered service from S. Rochester, New York. ASN - 0-659403 Lt. Sorace's P-38 was hit in the left engine by cannon fire from a Me-109 and was forced to bailed out. Was helped to the Massif Central region of France and was eventually able to contact American army troops near the Rhone valley in September 1944. MACR No. 05736 Downed whilst flying P-38J 43-28666 01 February 1943 - Joined the 343rd Fighter Squadron 20 November 1943 - Awarded the Air Medal January 1944 - Promoted from 1st Lieutenant to Captain September 1944 - Returned to duty September 1944 - Transferred to Headquarters, 1st Air Force, New York Crew Chief - S/Sgt. Charles H. Siemsen |
