There are two stories concerning Lt. McConnell's fate.  In the first German report, it was suggested that the local police "had some trouble with the captured pilot" and in the second that "A Mustang made an emergency landing, plane 50% damaged, pilot dead."
Lt. McConnell is buried at Plot M, Row 15, Grave 06, Netherlands American Military Cemetery and Memorial, Margraten, Netherlands.
