Memories When Lt. Goethel was interrogated upon return to England on 30 August, he said:
"My elevators and aileron controls were gone and flying shrapnel came into the cockpit.  I had a bullet hole in my head. Bailed out at 5,000 feet and delayed opening chute to 500 feet.  Aircraft exploded upon striking the ground."
