Capt. Charles O. Jones reported: "I last saw Lt. Goetzman when we were turning in on an 8 ship attack of Me-109s.  I was number 4 man, and Lt. Goetzman was number 3.  After that we split up and no one could tell who was who.  I didn't see him again in my flight.  This happened approximately over the target, Bremen, Germany, and just leaving it, heading West."
1.Lt. Goetzman was sent to Stalag Luft I with the other survivors of this air battle.  1/Lt. Lynn Rhead Goetzman might have been the second combat casualty of the 55th Fighter Group in World War II.
