1/Lt. John M. Wakeland reported: "We were in the vicinity of Eisenach, (Germany) when engaged by several Me-109s at 26,000 feet.  While chasing bandits Lt. Carson was on my wing, apparently OK.  He called me then telling me of trouble.  I could not understand what was wrong.  At that time the front flight got in a scrap and we had to break into a 109.  I did not see Lt. Carson after that.  I called him and thought I received an answer but could not understand it for sure.  The fight started after 1215 and I received Lt. Carson's call about 1318."

German J 2054 reported Lt. Carson's capture near crash site and that he was probably downed by a dogfight about 10 km W of Oberhof.  His Mustang's names was "Marybelle III".

Lt. Carson was imprisoned at Stalag Luft I, Barth.
