Memories	'I had a lot of friends with whom I lived and worked. Although officers and enlisted men were not to fraternize socially, I had wonderful pilot friends, some of whom were only one or two years older than I. We lost about 80 pilots over Europe, and many of them I knew and loved. My own Nissan hut was filled with a dozen men, each of whom was an interesting character. It seemed to me they were preoccupied with beer and women, but they were dying to go home.'
