I. I was leading the second element of White Flight and
we were about ten miles west of Kiel at about 26,000 to 28,000 ft. It was about
1135 and the first box of bombers were just starting their straight run into the
target when we crossed over the top of a number of Me210’s. Three Me210’s
crossed below me and a little out in front of me. I dipped my wing down and
fired at the last e/a in a three ship V because he was straggling back. I did
not see any results. I fired just a short burst and then straightened up in
formation. At this same time there were three e/a coming in on our formation
from the right and there were about 25 plus e/a to our left and above us.
It seemed that the single engine e/a were giving top cover to the twin engine
e/a.
