STATEMENT

I was in No. 4 position in White flight as we made an attack on 6 Me 109's which were attacking the flight ahead of us.  My element leader, Lt. Dempsey, got on the tail of one Me 109 and commenced firing at about 500 yards closing to about 200 yards. I was behind as we pulled up to the left and saw considerable smoke and several large pieces fall off the Me 109 as it suddenly burst into flames.
