I. I was flying Swindle Blue 3, escorting bombers near
Bordeaux, when looking to our right I noticed a Me109 attacking a box of B17's,
and calling to my flight leader I broke over and dove down to attack. The
e/a saw us coming down and immediately broke away and started down. I
opened fire on him from 400 yds and fired a 2 second and 3 second burst at him
with about 30 degree deflection. I observed no strikes and as I was not
closing I broke off at 15,000 ft and zoomed back to 20,000 and rejoined the
squadron.
