PILOT'S PERSONAL ENCOUNTER REPORT
B. 13 November 1943.
C. 338th Fighter Squadron, 55th Fighter Group.
F. 9/10 sky coverage, visibility unlimited at 30,000 feet.
G. ME 109.
I. I observed two ME 109's behind and above our flight as we were making climbing right turn. The flight turned into them in a shallow dive. The E/A refused a head-on pass and went under. Our flight leader took No. 1 and I took No. 2. I opened fire at 500 yards with a 30 degree deflection burst. I then closed rapidly and broke off in a shallow climbing turn to the right. No claims. I observed no hits, and I did not see aircraft after he broke away.
ERNEST W. GEORGE,
2nd Lieut., Air Corps.
